GoHighLevel A2P 10DLC registration, step by step
9 min read
If a GoHighLevel sub-account is going to send texts from a US number, it has to be registered for A2P 10DLC first. This is the process we follow for every registration we do, in the order that avoids the most common rejections. It assumes you are using LC Phone, which is the default phone system in GoHighLevel. If the sub-account runs on its own Twilio account, the same forms exist in the Twilio console.
Before you open the Trust Center
Most failed registrations fail because the information was gathered after the form was opened, not before. Collect this first.
- Legal business name, EIN, registered address and business type, exactly as filed with the IRS
- Business website on its own domain, live, with a privacy policy and terms page
- An authorized representative: full name, job title, business email and mobile number
- A clear description of what the messages are for, and two to five realistic sample messages
- The opt-in method: a form, a keyword, a paper form or a verbal script, with a screenshot if it is a form
Step 1: make the website compliant
The reviewer will open the website from the brand record. The privacy policy must state that mobile information is not shared with third parties for marketing or promotional purposes. The site needs a terms page that covers SMS: what the messages are, how often they come, that message and data rates may apply, and how to stop. If people opt in through a form, the form needs consent language next to the phone field. Do this before anything else, because changing it after a rejection means waiting for a second review.
Step 2: open the Trust Center in the sub-account
In the sub-account, go to Settings, then Phone Numbers, then the Trust Center tab. GoHighLevel moves this around between releases, so if it is not there, look for Regulatory Compliance or A2P under the phone settings. The Trust Center shows two sections: the brand (your business) and the campaigns (what you send).
Step 3: register the brand
Choose the brand type. A business with an EIN registers as a standard brand. An individual without an EIN uses Sole Proprietor, which has its own limits and its own form, covered in the next article. Enter the legal name, EIN, address, business type and the representative details. Use the legal name exactly as the IRS has it and put any trading name in the DBA field.
Brand registration is usually processed quickly, often within a day. If it comes back as unverified, the cause is almost always a mismatch between what you typed and the tax record.
Step 4: register the campaign
A campaign describes one kind of messaging. Most local businesses need one. Fill the fields in this order, because each one has to agree with the next.
- Use case: pick the one that describes most of the traffic. Mixed is acceptable when you send both reminders and offers
- Campaign description: two to four sentences saying who the recipients are, how they opted in, and what they will receive
- Message flow or opt-in description: the specific place consent is collected, in plain words
- Sample messages: two to five, each with the business name, at least one with "Reply STOP to opt out"
- Opt-in, opt-out and help keywords and the automatic replies for each
- Attributes: tick embedded links and phone numbers if your messages will contain them, and leave the restricted content boxes unticked unless they genuinely apply
Step 5: submit and wait
Once submitted, the campaign goes to The Campaign Registry for vetting and then to the carriers. Brand approval is quick; campaign approval typically takes a few days and can take a couple of weeks when carrier queues are busy. GoHighLevel shows the status in the Trust Center. Nothing you do in the meantime speeds it up, so resist the urge to edit and resubmit while it is pending.
Step 6: attach the number and test
When the campaign shows as approved, make sure the sub-account phone number is assigned to it. Then send a test message to a real mobile and confirm it arrives with the business name intact and that STOP produces the automatic reply. That test is the point where the registration is actually finished.
If it comes back rejected
Read the reason, fix the specific cause, and resubmit once. The previous article on this blog goes through the eight reasons that account for nearly every rejection we are asked to rescue. The most common on GoHighLevel specifically is the website: a sub-account whose client has no privacy policy, or a brand pointed at the agency's website instead of the client's.
Questions people ask
Does the agency account registration cover client sub-accounts?
No. Each sub-account that sends for a different business needs that business registered as its own brand. The agency registration only covers messages the agency itself sends.
How many campaigns does a sub-account need?
Usually one. A second campaign is only needed when the messaging genuinely splits into two different kinds, for example customer care on one number and marketing on another.
What does LC Phone change?
Nothing about the rules. LC Phone is GoHighLevel's built in phone provider, so the forms live inside the sub-account rather than in a separate Twilio console, but the brand and campaign requirements are identical.
